4302] WILLIAM JEWETT DAY 10/5/1873-2/17/1955 m.6/7/1896 at Hartford, CT, Hattie E. Root 3/9/1879-12/17/1942.
Lived in Barkhamsted, CT and was an accomplished musician, a teacher, a circuit court
judge and for four terms a member of the Connecticut State Legislature, which
passed a resolution of sympathy upon his death. He was a member of the Board of
Education for thirty years and also served on the Board of Assessors. In his
early days he operated a milk route in Hartford, CT. At the time of his death he
left 23 grandchildren. Hattie was organist of the Barkhamsted Center
Congregational Church for 35 years and was active in the King's Daughters and
Ladies Aid Society. She was a descendant of Thomas Root(e), b.1605 and, along
with [35]Robert Day, one of the founders of Hartford. Both William and Hattie
are buried in the new cemetery at Barkhamsted Center, CT.
